Description:
Another website has accepted the fundraising proposal for my documentary on John Giannaris and the Greek Battalion. John is an 89 year old World War II veteran and land mine survivor, who along with his battalion, engaged in what was expected to be a suicide mission behind enemy lines in Greece disrupting German operations and destroying rail and supply lines, which many feel helped turn the tide of the war since those resources could not be moved north to assist on the eastern front. I met John last year, and was very taken with his story, so much so that I decided to embark on a documentary about his life from the north side of Chicago through serving in World War II. The documentary is largely inspired by his 1988 autobiography, "Yannis", now out of print. I've shot 5 1/2 hours of interviews with John as the foundation of the documentary. Most pressing is to raise some funding to help underwrite travel expenses to Greece in September with John to film the veteran's tribute he will be honored at, as well as have him guide us through the areas he and his battalion fought the invaders in for my camera.

Further fundraising for the project will help pay for historical stock footage licensing, legal fees, original music scoring and other production related expenses. 15 minutes worth of stock footage alone for a 48 minute documentary can run upwards of $40,000. My involvement as a producer, director and editor is being contributed in sweat equity.

The project is now live and ready to accept angel donations and funding from those with an interest in helping support the project.

It's a very difficult economy for everyone right now, and I don't expect many of you will be able to afford helping with this. But to those who can and want to, this email is directed. It's also helpful to have people pass this along to parties they feel may be interested also through the power of networking.

Thanks for all your support!
